Edgar Allan Toh

Edgar Allan Toh was born in Quezon City, Philippines in 1972 and migrated to the US with his family as a child.  He had an affinity for art from a young age, when he would sit in class and doodle sketches of his chemistry teacher stuck inside a glass beaker or test tube.  With a family who valued education, Edgar pursued a bachelors degree in biology and chemistry as a college athlete.  However, he never lost his love for art.  While at university, Edgar painted wall murals for his dormitory and large banners for campus events.

Following school, Edgar was engulfed in his “day job” as a mortgage loan officer.  As fate would have it, Edgar broke his leg playing sports and turned back to art as a way to fill his time.  He decided to explore painting with oil on canvas and it provided him with so much joy and mental relief.  Edgar finds the inspiration for his paintings from childhood indulgences that will make you smile.  Whether it’s a young lady swinging on a donut or dancing with a gummy bear, the playful combination is reminiscent of the Pin-up girls from WWII posters.

Recently, Edgar began expanding his body of work, sculpting with clay, to create bronze sculptures that bring his subjects into the 3D realm, saying “I finally am using my chemistry degree as I learn how chemical patina creates vivid colors that bring my sculptures to life.”
